From the grasslands, thorn scrub and savanna woodlands of Africa come Servals (Felis serval). Servals are unique and shaped like no other cat due to their long necks, small heads and oversized, oval ears. This unusual cat possesses a golden coat which is marked with black spots, freckles, and stripes. In proportion to its body Servals have the longest legs in the feline family. Therefore, when these 35 - 40 pound cats lay down, they do so with their legs stretched out - canine style.

Select Exotics has found it difficult to find homes with the proper
permits and facilities to accomodate Servals. Due to these circumstances we
have decided to refrain from selling them as pets and are currently
producing them only for use in our Savannah program.

Of all exotic felines, Servals appear to exhibit the most affectionate personalities. We have trusted our Servals, as companion animals, to even share our bed each night. They also enjoy rides in the car and walks on a leash. While they are certainly loveable, entertaining and of a striking beauty, Servals are not for everyone. These animals live approximately 17 to 20 years and require an abundance of special care. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to experience a relationship with them and requires respect, common sense and a sincere commitment of time, expense and adapted facilities.

Those who are seriously interested in such an animal must check individual state and city regulations, as they do vary greatly from state to state. Most states require permits and special facilities. The alternative to obtaining permits is the ownership of a Savannah, which is a Serval-domestic cross. See the Savannah page for more information.
